Second Open Source APEX application available: Questionnaire!

After some hard work, we have released our second APEX application: “Questionnaire”! This application will enable business users to declaratively create and maintain surveys and forms. The application supports both anonymous as well as forms that need authentication.
Yes, it’s open source meaning it will cost you nothing and you are invited to use and enhance this application as you like! You can find more information about our open source solutions here:

Howto display a report with a fixed column and header

As seen many times in Oracle Forms applications, the first column of a report is made “fixed” so the user can scroll horizontally through the columns without losing an eye on the first column. As we are currently migrating a Forms application to APEX, we had to find an alternative in APEX for this feature. Browsing through  the web, we found something called jQuery FixedTables. Having spend a couple of hours on it, we integrated it in one of our APEX demos on portal.mt-ag.com. We are currently evaluating to make a Dynamic Action Plugin out of it. If it works as expected, then we will publish it on our website. In the meantime, if you have equal challenges in your APEX project, feel free to drop me an email and I will send you the demo as a packaged application. It will save you the time I have spend on it.

How to get an APEX Session ID programmatically

Ever wanted to programmatically create and use a valid APEX session ID? Well, one way to get a session ID is to let the database act as a browser and let it request the contents of a public APEX page. In this page, the session ID is stored and can be easily retrieved. Try it out yourself. But be aware: it only works for public APEX pages!
